So it's Friday afternoon, I'm sat at home working at my desk, it's drizzling outside and I've just made a cup of coffee. I thought this would be a good time to reflect on how my week has been.
Reflection isn't something we all take time to do, mainly because we all have such busy lives. However, I've come to realise how important it is to help us to get perspective, consider what we've achieved, what we've learned and to give ourselves some much needed time to think.
So, what have I reflected on this week. Well, firstly I feel that I have learned a lot this week. I decided to venture into making YouTube videos. Some are short vlog posts and others will be animated videos on topics such as IT skills, project management and employability related topics.
It's been a learning curve as I've never made an animated video before, but I didn't let that stop me. I'm now more confident (still a way to go) in what is possible and how to achieve what I want.
It always feels great when I learn something new, whether it be learning about another business, learning or meeting new people or learning a new skill. It never gets old. Plus I recently read that lifelong learners are some of the healthiest and happiest people around, so that's a bonus!
I also realised that I was trying to do too much. I know that may sound silly as I work for myself so is it ever enough? I've realised the answer is yes. I have so many ideas of things I want to do but rather than jump into it all at once, this week I re-prioritised and now feel more focussed on tackling things in a more calm and efficient way.
During my ten minutes reflection, I also reminded myself how important it is to have people around you who support what you're doing. I'm am very lucky in that respect, my partner is very supportive and always knows if I need to talk something through or whether I just need a cup of coffee because I've been at my laptop a long time. The rest of my family are the same, hugely supportive and very encouraging of what I do. I couldn't ask for anything more.
So, these are just some of my Friday afternoon thoughts. Why not try making yourself a drink and taking ten minutes to think about your week. Consider what you've learned, what have you achieved and how are you feeling. Think about what you're grateful for too, this is a key one for me and something we should all give a little more time to. It will also help boost your wellness.
